Today’s game was surely….interesting
Weather: Not a May Day. Many folks showed up in shorts/tshirts/flip flops with some permuations of additional clothing like pants or sweatshirts. Not me though – I know better! I was rocking long sleeve shirt + a sweatshirt + my winter coat! I was still cold!
Food: Today I went for the hot dog kids meal. It’s not a bad deal even for adults. $5 gets you a hot dog, a drink in a “magic” cup, a bag of chips, and your choice of pudding or gel. I can’t say I’m a fan of the Kozy Shack pudding – it has a weird consistency to me. I was confused too as to what “gel” was until I realized it was jello but they can’t use it thanks to trademarks and all that. Since I don’t like the pudding, gel it was. Can’t say I’m crazy about that either. Again a very strange consistency. Too bad they don’t give the 2 Oreo cookies like they used to in the kids meals!
Giveaway: It was Mother’s Day and therefore it was also pink cap giveaway day for the ladies. The cap is nice – pink with white stitching. The Toyota logo in the back is on the small side which is nice because it is not as out-there as most of the logos on free stuff are. The material though is very thin, probably the thinnest out of any of the free caps I’ve gotten. I’ll keep it though! Thanks!

Countdown: Today’s countdown sign to 65 games was unveiled by Willie Randolph’s wife & kids. Only 65 more?!
People: The crowd was interesting today – at least the crowd around me. At the 6th inning we had a guy that was acting really really strangely sit in the row in front of us. Everyone was either (1) moving away or (2) giving sideways glances and keeping an eye on him. It was almost like one of those “see something say something” moments. Then it did not help that we had a handful of Drunk “We’ll-just-sit-here-until-someone-comes-and-tells-us-to-move-to-our-real-seats” Guys behind us who took an opportunity to have a bit of a throw down with the Strange Man. Yeah. It was quite the situation up in the seats today.
Not too many boos out there today. Scott Schowenweiss got cheers (egads!) when he was taken out. He did well though, so well deserved cheers.
A usual feature of the game is the Kiss Cam, but this time the Kiss Cam got taken to a whole new level. As they were announcing the last couple as the obligatory “Couple of the Game”, the guy pulls out an engagement ring, the girl is shocked out of her mind, the camera continues to film and show it all on Diamondvision while the home plate umpire was thinking “Let’s go people!”
The Game: The Mets got on base and scored early and often. Put in back to back home runs from Beltran and Church. Throw in a walk and stolen base by none other than Ollie himself (that steal was terrible looking, but a steal nonetheless!) and then a bunt single later in the game. Ollie did well pitching up until the 5th when he got into and then out of a jam, but the 6th inning was meltdown time – to the bullpen we go!

Then came the 9th inning and what seemed like an infinitely long amount of time to figure out what in the world was going on. The one thing I don’t like about actually being at a game in person is that you never know what is going on when there are problems. A “regular” who sits two rows in front of me always listens to the game on the radio, today being no exception, and he said how the Reds were batting out of order. After much confusion, some Reds player got up and batted but then there was ANOTHER big pow-wow between the umps and again it was like “hey hey hey, what is going on here?”. The Mets win, so hooray for that.
It won’t be too long for the next I was there…Subway Series at Al-Yankzeera next weekend, here I come!
