Yesterday in the Yankees-Astros game, Chien-Ming Wang, also known as the Yankees most consistent pitcher this year, managed to bust up his foot while running the bases. He partially tore a tendon and sprained his right foot, has to wear a boot and be on crutches. How anyone can do such things is beyond me, I mean it’s not like he was doing a steeplechase or something, but ok, its a freak accident.
Meanwhile the Yankees Brass goes all “Call the Waaaahmbulance” on us with Hanky Boy saying “The National League needs to join the 21st Century. They need to grow up…Am I [mad] about it? Yes. I’ve got my pitchers running the bases, and one of them gets hurt. He’s going to be out. I don’t like that, and it’s about time they address it. That was a rule from the 1800s.”
Sorry Hanky. Maybe the AL should get with the 21st Century program and drop the DH. It’s lame. Hanky tries to say it would be good for the NL too, like it’s too much to ask pitchers to hit and run the bases. Sigh. Let me say it again….lame.
I seem to recall someone (Girardi?) wanting to ask the commissioner to only schedule one interleague series at a time, that is heaven forbid they play two NL teams in a row. GIVE ME A BREAK. You’re lame too for that request.
The best quote though comes from the Moose (Mussina): “We run in straight lines most of the time. Turning corners, you just don’t do that.”
OK. So. Mike. Let’s get this straight. What happens if you are out for a run, staying in shape, in your neighborhood in the offseason and you get to the end of the road and instead of crossing it because maybe there’s a bunch of traffic or something….do you DARE turn the corner and keep running or do you stop and cry because you have no idea what to do next?
